Cecil shared his powerful medical story and life journey with students in Home for Healing’s teen program, Diamonds & Studs. He connected with them, offering encouragement and perspective drawn from his own challenges. A few years back, Cecil also owned a restaurant, and when Home for Healing hosted a cookout for the Diamonds & Studs group, he was one of the guests who helped prepare the fabulous food, showing his love for cooking.
In April 2025, Cecil was diagnosed with prostate cancer. His family was deeply concerned, as he had already endured many health challenges, including two open-heart surgeries, a pacemaker, sleep apnea, and two hernias. Yet through it all, Cecil’s strong faith in God continues to give him strength and hope.
Married for 16 years, Cecil enjoys watching basketball and football, especially football, which brings him both excitement and relaxation. He also loves working with his hands as a handyman. Looking ahead, he dreams of owning a food truck, eventually opening another restaurant, and even pursuing long-haul driving so he can travel.
Cecil is grateful every day for being alive, for his family, and for the kindness of people who step in to help when they don’t have to. His treatment is going well, and he has just three radiation sessions left, followed by checkups every six weeks.
He describes Home for Healing as “fabulous,” with friendly staff, clean rooms, and a peaceful environment that feels like the perfect place to recover. Cecil is truly thankful for Home for Healing and the support it provides during this journey.

At Home for Healing, we say it often, and it couldn’t be more true: we simply could not do what we do without our volunteers.
Every single day, our volunteers are the heartbeat of this house. They greet families with warm smiles, serve coffee with kindness, lead special activities that bring joy, and step in to help with the little things that make a big difference. Whether it’s organizing a meal, planting flowers on the porch, or sitting with a guest who just needs someone to listen, our volunteers remind us that compassion is powerful.
What makes it even more special is that volunteering here doesn’t feel like “work.” It feels like being part of a family. You get to laugh with us during events, join in celebrations, and see firsthand how your time and heart touch lives in real and lasting ways. Many of our volunteers tell us they leave with more joy than they came with!
