Guest Story: TaQuisha, Mario & Zion
TaQuisha and Mario found themselves facing one of the most challenging moments of their lives when their baby boy, Zion, was born prematurely at just 33 weeks. Complications from preterm labor led to an emergency C-section, and their newborn son had to remain in the NICU for four weeks.
During this emotionally overwhelming time, Home for Healing became a peaceful refuge for them. The home offered not just a place to stay, but a calm and supportive environment that allowed them to focus on their son’s recovery.
They described their stay as peaceful and perfect. From the cleanliness of the home to the quality of their room and the thoughtful guest amenities, every detail exceeded their expectations. The staff, in particular, stood out for their unwavering support and kindness.
When asked what could have made their stay better, they simply said, “Nothing. Everything was perfect.” To them, Home for Healing wasn’t just a place to sleep - it was a blessing during a deeply difficult time.
TaQuisha and Mario are grateful for the care and comfort they received and were more than willing to share their story in hopes that it might encourage and support other families going through similar experiences. While we will truly miss having them at Home for Healing, we’re excited knowing they have joyful days ahead.

The Diamonds & Studs got a taste of real-world healthcare at the UA Little Rock Pat Walker Center for Nursing Education!
Students recently took part in a reality nursing simulation at the state-of-the-art UALR Center for Nursing, where they experienced both hands-on and virtual reality simulations that brought clinical scenarios.
Another incredible opportunity to learn, grow and lead!

It’s been an absolute joy watching our Diamonds & Studs students shine this summer! I’ve had so much fun alongside them, and I continue to be amazed at their energy, curiosity, and compassion.
These high school leaders recently hosted a “Dialing for Diamonds & Studs” night armed with phones, determination, and a mission. Over $8,000 was raised by calling their friends, family, and neighbors. What an inspiring example of teamwork and heart!
Beyond fundraising, the students have taken part in an incredible variety of hands-on experiences designed to spark interest in healthcare and community service. They’ve participated in simulated patient care exercises at the UALR School of Nursing, completed Narcan and CPR training, and teamed up with OMP program to make cozy blankets for our guests.
But the most talked-about moment? Witnessing live knee replacements at the Arkansas Surgical Center! This rare behind-the-scenes experience left everyone buzzing and deeply inspired about future career paths.
These opportunities are exactly why we created the Diamonds & Studs program - to offer fun, meaningful experiences that open doors and ignite purpose. And it’s working.
As we celebrate these bright young leaders, we’re also facing a practical challenge. Recent storms have severely damaged our roof, and insurance will not cover the cost of replacement. In order to continue providing a safe and healing space for families in medical crisis, we need your help.
We’re asking our community to dig deep. Your gift large or small will help us raise the funds needed for a new roof, so we can continue the work we’re called to do. Together, let’s ensure Home for Healing remains a strong, welcoming shelter for those who need it most.
