Shanika’s journey into motherhood took an unexpected turn when her son, Jamari, was born prematurely at 27 weeks due to preeclampsia. Over the past 10 months, Jamari has faced numerous challenges, including multiple surgeries to place a life-long shunt and to treat a twisted intestine. But through it all, Jamari has shown incredible strength—he’s seizure-free since June, thriving at 21 pounds, and starting to find his voice. Soon, he’ll be heading home!
Through every up and down, Shanika has found peace and comfort at Home for Healing. The calm, peaceful environment has given her the space to rest and focus on Jamari’s recovery. After 10 months, she’s so grateful for the love and support this place has offered. Shanika hopes others can experience the same healing and tranquility it has brought to their journey.

We had an AMAZING kick-off event on March 16th for our new 2025-26 Diamonds & Studs program! ✨
Over 40 students, plus their parents, joined us to help launch this exciting initiative, and the energy was absolutely incredible! We’re beyond thrilled about what’s to come.
Our inaugural class is already showing so much promise, and we can’t wait to see how they’ll raise awareness and support for Home for Healing.

Listening, Responding, and Making a Difference
At Home for Healing, we begin every meeting with a Mission Moment—a story from a patient or caregiver about their journey. These moments remind us why we do what we do and, most importantly, give us an opportunity to ask, “How can we make your stay even better?”
Recently, one of our cancer patients shared that she was struggling to sleep because she couldn’t lie flat, and light from the windows was disturbing her rest. We knew we had to act. Thanks to our partnership with Hank’s Fine Furniture, we secured adjustable bed frames to provide much-needed comfort. This was made possible by the generosity of Felton Rhodes, Pinnacle Structures, and 2nd Presbyterian Church, who stepped in to help us meet this need quickly.
