Guest Spotlight
Mr. Dunbar's journey has been truly remarkable. Since arriving at Home for Healing in 2022, he's faced significant health challenges with remarkable resilience. Named ‘Lucy,’ his tumor was non-cancerous but required the removal of part of his pancreas and spleen. Despite the severity of his condition and the initial bleak outlook from doctors, he defied expectations with his swift recovery.
His proactive approach to his health, including leveraging YouTube for information on procedures, has played a crucial role in his journey. With another surgery scheduled for August 2024, he remains optimistic that it will prevent future complications.
Mr. Dunbar continues to lead an active life, maintaining his love for camping and backpacking. The support he's received at Home for Healing, including assistance with medical bills and gas cards, has been invaluable. To him, Home for Healing has become more than just a place—it's a second home where he's found both physical and emotional support.

Words from our Director
This month has been challenging as I lost my mom to cancer on August 6th. I had the privilege of walking alongside her throughout her journey—from the initial diagnosis, traveling to MD Anderson to learn about the primary source of her cancer, through treatment, and finally, to the end of her life. It was not an easy path, and she fought with incredible strength. Despite being given just six months to live in April 2022, she never wavered in her determination to beat the odds. And she did—she fought on for over two years, maintaining a positive attitude that I genuinely believe kept her with us longer.
At Home for Healing, we see so many battling cancer, NICU challenges, or fighting for their lives in the ICU. We strive to keep our environment positive, offering support and hope to everyone who walks through our doors. Although my mom lived here in Little Rock, I often wished she had access to the same kind of support network that Home for Healing provides. It frequently felt like she was battling alone, with only family and a few close friends by her side. This experience deepened my love and commitment to our work at Home for Healing. It’s more than just a place; it’s a natural support system, a quiet space to fight, and a loving environment where no one has to battle alone.
None of this would be possible without the generosity of our donors, volunteers, and supporters. I am deeply grateful for your support over the last few years. Moving forward without my mom will be incredibly hard, but I take comfort in the meaningful work we do here, helping so many others in need.
